What Is the Gemini Watermark?

The short answer
The Gemini watermark is a semi-transparent Google Gemini logo that appears in the bottom-right corner of every image and video generated by Google's Gemini AI model. It is a visible, alpha-composited overlay β meaning it's blended directly on top of the generated content before the file is delivered to you.
Where exactly does it appear?
The watermark is consistently positioned in the lower-right corner of the output, regardless of the image dimensions or aspect ratio. It scales proportionally with the image resolution β larger outputs have a proportionally larger watermark region.

Why does Google add it?
Google applies the watermark as part of its AI transparency initiative. The goal is to make it clear to viewers that an image or video was AI-generated β this is in line with emerging industry norms and regulatory pressures around AI content disclosure.
The watermark acts as a visible signal: "This was created by Gemini." It's similar to watermarks used by other AI image generators like Midjourney or DALLΒ·E, though the implementation differs.
How is the watermark applied technically?
The Gemini watermark is composited using alpha blending β the same compositing technique used by video editing software and browsers to layer transparent elements:
